@maya113, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble deleting a file and your folders are suddenly requiring permissions, even though you're logged in. Let's work through this step-by-step to resolve both issues.

Issue 1: "I need a file deleted but it says I need permission"

This usually happens when your user account doesn’t have ownership of the file or folder. Here's how to fix it:

Take Ownership of the File

  1. Right-click the file or folder.
  2. Select Properties > go to the Security tab.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Next to Owner, click Change.
  5. Type your username and click Check Names.
  6. Click OK, then check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
  7. Click Apply and OK.

Grant Full Permissions

  1. Back in the Security tab, click Edit.
  2. Select your username and check Full control.
  3. Click Apply and OK.

Now try deleting the file again.

"Folders are suddenly asking for permission"

This could be due to:

  • A recent Windows update changing folder permissions.
  • Corrupted user profile.
  • Malware or third-party software interfering.

Run HP Support Assistant

Make sure your system is up to date:

Run System File Checker

  1. Press Windows + X, then click Windows Terminal (Admin).
  2. Type: sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  3. Wait for the scan to complete and follow any prompts.

Check for Malware

Run a full scan using Windows Security or a trusted antivirus.

Optional: Create a New User Profile

If the issue persists, try creating a new user account:

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  2. Click Add someone else to this PC.
  3. Follow the prompts to create a new local user.
  4. Log in with the new account and check if the issue continues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
