Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

Words of Wisdom - based on my experience with this product

BEFORE you need that data that you have been backing up to this unit (and using this software), this would be a really good time to replace the SimpleSave backup with .. well, almost anything that is not based on proprietary software.

Should the entire SimpleSave setup fail and lock up your data, you are "done".  No more data access.  A data forensics tech may be able to help in that case...

Note the date on that User Manual (2010).  Old.

Note the supported Operating System versions - not Windows 10.

Understand that one of the things that can happen (aside from total lost of access to the data due to a software failure), is that the power supply in the hard drive unit can (and will at some point) fail.

The disk itself is likely to fail after years of service.

If the power unit does not fail, and the disk holds together, the power cable may fail.  If it does not fail and you instead lose the cable, you may not find another.  This is one of those fancy, proprietary, weird little cables.

@Teddy2014, welcome to the forum.

Here is the SimpleSave Manual.  On Page 5, of the section titled "How To Backup Your Files" it shows you how to view the Backup Log report.  This should tell you when the last backup was made.

Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Thankyou for your assistance, and for jumping in, and yes your reply was very scary for me, but did the job.

I will disconnect the Simplysave and purchase another product from H.P.

I only have files and photo's, not a massive amount to back up, and have had peice of mind thinking that in the background all would be protected. Now I know otherwise.

Thankyou again

You are welcome, of course.

Well, mission accomplished.  Smiling.

Actually, the service you received from drive and the software was fine and good .. it is perhaps just time to move on.  Updating your backup methodology on occasion is one of the more important tasks in computer administration .  Boring, but important.  :Wink:
