HP Chromebook - 14a-na0023cl

When I started up my laptop this evening it said there was no network connection.  Then I had to put in the network wifi password.  When it came up, everything looked different.  On checking on files, I have my most recent files and documents missing.  I had numerous items downloaded and they are all gone.  Have I been hacked?

Hi @KB0031 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query,  I am glad to help you.

Let's try these troubleshooting steps

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your Wi-Fi is properly connected and that you have a stable internet connection. Sometimes, issues with network connectivity can lead to a temporary loss of access to files stored in the cloud.

Google Account Sign-In:

  • Check if you are signed in with the correct Google account. Your files and documents might be associated with a specific Google account, and if you are signed in with a different account, it may appear as if files are missing.

Google Drive:

  • Check Google Drive, which is where Chromebooks often store files. Your missing documents might be available there. Open the Files app on your Chromebook, and look for the "Google Drive" section.

Recent Files:

  • In some cases, the "Recent" section in the Files app may not show all files. Navigate to the specific folders where you usually save your files to see if they are there.

Chromebook Sync:

  • Chromebooks are designed to sync data with your Google account. Make sure that your Chromebook is syncing properly. You can check this in the settings.

Chromebook Recovery:

  • If the issue persists, you might consider power-washing or recovering your Chromebook. This will reset it to factory settings. Be aware that this will remove all local data, so make sure your important files are backed up.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
