hello, I have reset my desktop back to factory reset and it requires a password to get back in. I have tried all the passwords I have with no luck. Any tips.

You should have several options to sign in

If there is only one option, and it does not work, then look for another account in the bottom left corner.

You must use an account with online credentials. Usually that requires you to enter your Microsoft email "username" and password.  Make sure your system is online.  Look at bottom right for a Wi-Fi icon, click on it and configure it to login in.

Log into you Microsoft online or live account (the cloud) and see if all you important documents are there. If they are then just reinstall windows.  You mentioned you did a factory reset.  Did you reset from the HP cloud?  Was it just a Microsoft reset and you requested the reset to preserver your personal files?  What model PC do you have?

I have only 2 options, the pin pad and password option. There is no other options to sign in at the lower left. I read that I can use the password wizard. Should I do that?

To recover a forgotten Windows password, you can use several methods depending on whether your Windows login is linked to a Microsoft account or a local account. If it's a Microsoft account, you can reset it by using the Microsoft password reset page. For local accounts, you might need to use a password reset disk, access the built-in Administrator account through Safe Mode, or use Windows installation media to access the recovery environment. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Here's a more detailed breakdown: [2]

1. Microsoft Account Password Reset: [2]
  • If your Windows login is tied to a Microsoft account, you can reset your password by visiting the Microsoft password reset page on another device. [2]
  • Follow the instructions on the page to verify your identity and choose a new password. [1]
2. Local Account Password Reset (Using Password Reset Disk): [5]
  • Create a Password Reset Disk (if you haven't already): Before you forget your password, you can create a password reset disk using the Control Panel. This disk can be used to reset your password if you forget it.
  • Use the Password Reset Disk: When prompted for your password during login, insert the disk and follow the on-screen instructions. [5]
3. Local Account Password Reset (Using Safe Mode and Administrator Account): [5]
  • Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your computer and repeatedly press F8 (or the appropriate key for your device) to access the boot menu, then select Safe Mode.
  • Access the Administrator Account: Log in using the built-in Administrator account, which usually doesn't require a password.
  • Reset Your Password: Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Reset password. [5]
4. Local Account Password Reset (Using Windows Installation Media): [4]
  • Create Windows Installation Media: If you don't have one, create a bootable USB drive using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from Media: Boot your computer from the USB drive and access the Windows Recovery Environment.
  • Access Command Prompt: Use the Command Prompt within the Recovery Environment to reset the password for your local account. [4]
Important Notes: [5]
  • If you have multiple local accounts, you may need to use the password reset disk for each one. [5]
  • If you don't have a password reset disk or are unable to access Safe Mode, you may need to reinstall Windows to reset your password. [4, 6]
