Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i am trying to re install windows 10 but i am unable to. i get to approx 30% and then i get an error to contact microsoft. I have also lost my recovery disks

This issue is often due to a failing drive. So, let's check that first, because if it is failing, it would need to be replaced and there is no point then in doing anything else until we confirm that.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) Press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.
If the drive checks out OK, then report that and I can provide you options for reinstalling Windows on your PC.

Did you really have a set of Recovery Media? 

 

Over the years, HP has stopped making the disks, to be shipped with a new computer. Instead, they have added a utility program onto the computer that lets you create your own Recovery Media - usually 2 or 3 "blank" DVD-recordable disks, or one 8GB to 16GB memory-stick.  

 

Also, there might be a "Recovery Partition" (4 GB to 16GB) as a small partition on your current disk-drive. It is possible to boot from that partition, and then to create the Recovery Media.

 

But, it is quite possible that your disk-drive is failing. However, it might have enough residual "health" to use free software, such as "Macrium Reflect" to read from your disk-drive, and create a "clone" of the disk-drive onto a brand-new disk-drive. Then, like changing an automobile-tire, remove the current disk-drive, and connect the new disk-drive, and boot from the "clone" disk-drive.  Note that you should download & install Macrium Reflect on another computer, and get it to create a "bootable" version of the software. Boot your computer from that bootable version, with both the current and the new disk-drives attached, and then do the cloning process.
