I wasnt sure where to post since it seems like i have two issues going on at once.
My disc drive all of a sudden stopped reading certain discs. i did a reset of windows 10 keeping all files, after doing all the hardware checks (i think) that i googled. It still is not reading my photo elements and other program discs, but will read the laser cleaner and canon software disc. when i insert the photo elements and some back up picture discs i can here it trying to spin
the second issue is since the reset im having a hard time waking my monitor up,after a restart. i have to power it down, unplug, tap power to make light go off in back then plug back in and then it will come on.
also the light next to power button,on pc tower, should that be flashing blue? because it is flashing orange.

Since CD and DVD media physically are the same size, but the capacities are quite different (700 MB versus 4700 MB), it's apparent that the mechanism to read "high-density" media has failed.
If you need to read DVDs, it is necessary to replace the CD/DVD drive.

Are some of those disks CDs and some DVDs?
Will your optical device read one type, but not the other?

I assume that your computer is: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03531729
and that the monitor is a separate component.

What manufacturer and model-number of your monitor?
Many monitors "flash orange" when they are in "power-saving" mode, or when they are not connected to a computer.
Check that the cable between the monitor and the computer is tightly connected at both ends.
Maybe, borrow a different cable, and try it.

> the cd/dvd cleaner it reads ,and my canon software is cd and it reads.
That "cleaner" disk probably is a CD-ROM, not a DVD.
What disks do *NOT* work in your computer?
Do those disks work in some other computer?

> It is flashing orange even when pc is awake.
Some computers have two side-by-side lamps: one that blinks whenever there is disk-drive input/output, and one that shows "flashing orange" when the computer is sleeping, or when the motherboard has detected some problem.
See: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-p6-Desktop-PC-series/5295969/model/5296980/manuals
for the manuals for your computer. Maybe, one of those manuals explains the "color" and "flashing" of the lamp.
