Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to set up my wife as a user. Microsoft profile and log-in is ok. Can access her micro acct from the system, but it will not create her desktop, and she cannot log-into the PC. Tried all the cures for "profile failed log-in" including restart in safe mode. When screen came up in safe mode, received 2 error mssg. 1) "need new app to open this ms-get-started", and 2)" windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop" file not found. Traced out path with file explorer, and sure enough "desktop" is missing from path.

How do I correct this error???

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I read that you have an HP ENVY 27 All in one PC and create a user account for your Wife. The Microsoft profile and login is okay and can be accessed from the PC. But the desktop is not created. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Are other account logins working fine?
  • Are you the administrator of the PC?

I suggest you to follow the detailed instructions from this link to create a User Account in Windows 10: Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 10)

Also, If the issue persists then er might have to repair Win10 operating system: http://hp.care/2e7EE00 (Note: This link provides steps for Win8, but the steps will work for Win10 too.)

I hope this information helps. Keep me posted on how it goes. All the best! 🙂

Thank you very much! I ended up having to re-load windows, but I had the option to save my files , so the resultant work wasn't too bad. Do not understand the original problem, though, the file path remained incomplete; however, was able to add my wife as a user and her profile popped right up after re-loading windows. So, thanks for the help and the best to you and yours!!!

You're most welcome. 🙂

I'm glad to know that the issue is fixed and your Wife got added as the user successfully. I must say that technical solutions can only be provided. But it was you who implemented them to perfection. Happy computing. Cheers!
