when sd card is inserted, I am unable to open and view photos/ videos. How do I retrieve the contents?

Which Operating System on your computer ? You can open File Explorer to see the contents od SD card. For example: I put my SD card from my camera to my machine I can see

 

   sd files.png

 

Part A: Default folders of a normal camera (including on phones, tablets)

Part B: Photos .. on that card

Hello, I think you can apply a recovery tool if you do not have a better way to open your photos and other files, I recommend Bitwar Data Recovery, as it's free and effective. Hope it can do something for you.
