Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I would replace the HDD with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD if you are otherwise happy with your PC's performance.

The tech may be able to recover data from the old disk drive if it has not completely failed.

Thank u for ur response. I brought my desktop at Best Buy and they said motherboard problem. Recommending to buy a new one(Ouch!). I hope mother board is repairable coz my desktop was doing good until I encounter this “smart disk error” problem. My desktop warranty was expired a year ago (another ouch!) lol

Hi DQuintV,

Wait.

You should get a second opinion from a local, reliable PC technician.

A smart disk error is not usually a motherboard problem.

Replacing a HDD is much easier and less costly compared to replacing a motherboard.

Look, the motherboard SATA HDD controller could have failed. This would require a motherboard replacement.
