Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

motherboard died replaced it and is working but has message "this copy of windows not genuine". will not update and I keep getting pop-up message. how can i fix this problem/can i fix this problem?

Hi:

 

The only way to fix the problem would be to change the product key in the Windows control panel to the one on your PC's case.

To add to what @Paul_Tikkanen  has already told you, the message you're seeing is CORRECT!  Why?

 

Because the Windows version in your PC has an HP OEM license and that is tied directly to the motherboard.  When you changed motherboards, you basically threw away your license -- and HP will not provide you a second one.

 

If entering the code works, then you are set; but if it does not, you will have to out any purchase your own license to activate Windows.
