I respect your shopping choice.

To repeat: image of the "direct" power-sockets on the GTX 770:

Remove the "blank" just before 'jpg'.
Note that the GTX 770 has *BOTH* a 6-pin and an 8-pin socket.
That eBay listing states: 2x PCIe Connectors (6-Pin + 6+2-Pin)
That "6+2" will fit into the 8-pin socket.

Your computer: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c04343438
has an external power-supply: Total wattage: 180 W external power adapter (100V-240V)
and a low-profile NVIDIA GeForce GT 705 graphics adapter:
• Memory size: 1 GB
• Total power consumption: ~ 31 W max
> I have changed the graphics card once before, being a GT 730
From: https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-730/specifications
there are 3 different models.
GT 730 GPU Engine Specs:
Graphics card version GT 730 DDR3, 128-bit /// GT 730 DDR3, 64-bit /// GT 730 GDDR5
CUDA Cores 96 /// 384 /// 384
Base Clock (MHz) 700 /// 902 /// 902
Thermal and Power Specs:
Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 98 /// 98 /// 98
Graphics Card Power (W) 49 /// 23 /// 25
Minimum Recommended System Power (W) 300 /// 300 /// 300
> but I am wanting to get a GTX 770
From: https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-770/specifications
Thermal and Power Specs:
98 C -- Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
230 W -- Graphics Card Power (W)
600 W -- Minimum Recommended System Power (W)
One 8-pin and one 6-pin -- Supplementary Power Connectors
> Will my PC be able to use this card, or do i need to upgrade other things too ?
No. Your power-supply is completely inadequate to be compatible with the GTX 770.
Given that the power-supply is "external", it may be difficult to find a compatible replacement with enough wattage.

However, after looking at:
I question whether your power-supply really is "external", as HP's web-site claims.
It looks to be a "standard" power-supply, which can easily be replaced.
For "external", I think of any laptop, which has an "external" power-supply.

thank you for your reply but you have confused me to some degree, so my pc can not use the gtx 770 as it is now and either never will be or will be depending on the external power ? thank you for your to the point message but could i ask you to dumb it down for me, like a simple it can never or a if u buy this it can then use that graphics card.

> you have confused me to some degree, so my pc can not use the gtx 770 as it is now
Correct.
Its recommendation for a "minimum" power-supply is over TWICE what the rating of your current power-supply.
> either never will be or will be depending on the external power ?
The answer to any "IF (X) OR (NOT(X))" is always "true".
So, I'm not sure what you are asking.
Your current power-supply will not work with the GTX 770.
If you upgraded your power-supply, it's still possible that the motherboard will not supply enough power through the PCI-E socket to support the GTX 770, even though the GTX 770 has additional connectors to receive more power directly from the (upgraded) power-supply.
> a simple it can never or a if u buy this it can then use that graphics card.
With the current power-supply, the GTX 770 will not work.
With an upgraded power-supply that matches/exceeds the listed requirement for the GTX 770, the GTX 770 might work -- it depends on how much electrical power that the motherboard supplies through the PCI-E slot, versus how much electrical power that is supplied directly from the power-supply.

again thank you for your reply.
lastly, if you could recommend a power supply unit that would fit in my pc that can use the gtx 770 that would be most helpful, i mat buy it and them the gtx 770 to see if it can work with my motherboard. im not sure if this additional info im about to type would help or not.

> if you could recommend a power supply unit that would fit in my PC
Disconnect the current power-supply from all the devices (CD, disk-drive, motherboard) and unscrew it from the case, remove it, and take it to the computer-store, and purchase a new power-supply of the same physical dimensions.
From: https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-770/specifications
Thermal and Power Specs:
230 W -- Graphics Card Power (W)
600 W -- Minimum Recommended System Power (W)
One 8-pin and one 6-pin -- Supplementary Power Connectors
The new power-supply must have the above 8-pin and 6-pin connectors, as per the picture that I previously posted.
Be sure to indicate this requirement to the clerk at the computer-store, as well as the requirement for at least 600 watts.

Not helpful. Instead, look at the values on the gummy-label affixed to the current power-supply.

id rather buy online then to go to a store.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Artic-Blue-850W-Power-Supply-/182044159531?_trksid=p2349526.m2548.l4275
if i was to measure my unit and for it to be the same as this one, do you think this unit will do ? i looked at its PCI and it said about having a 6+2 pin, i asume that is the 8 you mentioned above.
