water splashed on husband's HP desktop (area in front where ON/OFF, USB ports, Fan are) Now when you turn on, RED light flashes and beeps.  Does not turn on.  What did he fry?  I took it apart, inside everything except that front fan area looked dry and dusty.  I cleaned it all.  Used blow dryer on fan area.  Still no luck.  Just beeps and Flashes RED.  Any ideas?  Is it something I can try to fix myself?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Can you detect a specific beep cadence? The cadence may tell you what component has failed.

Water and energized electrical components don't play very well together.

Water in the USB ports or the power switch is going to zap the devices and possible motherboard stuff. These items connect directly to the motherboard.

HP factory service (if you are in warranty) or a local tech would have to take a look to see what component has been damaged.

Regards

Thanks Grzwacz.  That is what we figured.  My husband has accepted that all his data is gone.  It was not under warranty and we cannot afford to have someone work on it.  Thanks for your input though.  I was just hoping someone would tell me, oh that's simple, just change the On/Off switch.  I should have known nothing is ever that simple.   Have a great day.

Hi Kunus-No1_Poppy,

The data is probably okay unless the HDD got zapped.

You would have to remove the HDD. Then install it in a different PC internally or get a HDD SATA/USB caddy.

Connect the caddy to a USB port on a different pC.

Regards
