I took the fan and heat sink out of the computer and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol 99.9%. I then cleaned the thermal paste off the top of the pcu and then I reapplied with new thermal paste. This seems to have done the job.

Do you mean the screen goes blank or that it powers-off and you have to press the power button, and it starts the boot process? There is a big difference.

Well done - Chrissy ... takes brains and skill to do that. Keep an eye on dust build-up on cooling fan blades and vent covers. It takes very little to disturb the balance (like the balancing weights on your car wheels - to keep them running smooth), and to disrupt flow through the vents (front and back - folks attend the back and often ignore the front).
Keep well and keep smiling (I'm very impressed),
Rick
