HP 260 G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently purchased 2 of these machines that come with Freedos with the intention of loading windows7 64bit.  Hp supports this hardware with Windows 7 drivers so this shouldn't be an issue.  However,  when trying to load Windows 7, i ran into the USB 3.0 issue that I have seen on these forums.  I dloaded the Intel USB 3.0 creator utility and inserted the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows 7 installation on a USB drive.  I was able to get past the 1st screen where you choose your language and windows continued to load.  However, after the first reboot where it says Windows loading for the first time,  at the next screen the keyboard and mouse has died again.   I can't get past this.  I have dloaded a Windows 7 64bit with service pack1 ISO and inserted the USB 3.0 drivers and it does the same thing.  Now I get a windows that pops up wanting a CD/DVD driver that is missing when I'm not using a DVD drive; I'm using a USB stick.  I found another user online that had this missing driver issue and showed how to use DISM to manually insert the USB 3.0 drivers and this fixed his issue, but it didn't fix mine.  I need help to get Windows 7 on these machines.  I tried the cloud recovery client which was a suggestion from a similar issue on the forums, but when I enter the serial number it just says invalid serial number.

Hi again:

I am giving you this information that another forum member shared with me for how to get past the 2nd time the KB and mouse freeze...

1. Windows starts with the "PreBoot enviroment" this lacks usb 3.0 driver support, and only has just the bare minimum to get a graphical setup screen up and running

2. Once you enter in the nessary information into the preboot (such as install location, partition size, and some other misc info) it passes the information into the main windows OS install  (install.wim) and again this installer has no USB 3.0 driver support

The intel usb 3.0 program seems not to update both setups with the nessary USB /RST information and the  RST 10.1.1.14 driver

To get a working install, extract the Intel USB 3.0 driver for the motherboards chipset, to access the inf files, then also do the same to the intel RST driver  (10.1.0.1008) or the latest  for the NUC, 10.1.1.14  the correct driver rev depends on the hardware.

Then slipstream the USB 3.0 driver into both the PXE Preboot and the Install.wim setups, and the chipset inf into the install.wim using NTLite

Now you will have a win 7 install setup that had USB 3.0 support in preboot and windows 7, and the setup had the proper chipset RST information

In your specific case, you need these drivers...

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer since you tried everything else, would be to take a look at option 2 at the link below...(the gigabyte installer).

http://www.nag.co.za/2016/02/02/installing-windows-7-on-skylake-there-are-ways-to-make-it-work/

Or option 2 at the link below...the ASUS EZ installer...

Thanks for the replies.  I haven't had a chance to try your solutions yet since this weekend.  I will try this week and post my results.  I thought I had used DISM to insert the USB 3.0 drivers into the boot.wim and the install.wim before I had made my original post.  Regardless, I will start fresh and do all of your suggested steps.

Thanks,

Keith

You're very welcome, Keith.

Hopefully, the last one I posted will work because the author of the suggestion did it himself to solve the problem.

Using the above method, I was able to get past the 2nd USB freeze and continue to get Windows 7 loaded.  Thanks for the help!
