Hello,

I am wanting to upgrade a Envy 700-214 to a I7-4790 - Currently it has a working I5-4440

I know this motherboard can work with the 4790 but I am needing to upgrade the bios to BIOS Version/Date AMI 80.23, 7/6/2016. There is a post on here that the CPU worked for someone else once it was updated to this BIOS. HP has removed all files that I can find at least for this motherboard. So I found a 80.20 version on a sketchy web page and was able to flash that but had to do this through windows 10. It still does not boot into Bios. So I am wanting upgrade to 80.23 and follow the old post direction.

Does anyone know where I can find the update for the bios with at least a 80.23? I found the bin file for 80.23 to flash the bios at the Retroweb (https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/pegatron-ipm87-mp-dvi-oem ) but this bios can only be flashed from a program ran in Windows and I cannot find the program that would flash it to 80.23. This is a old enough bios you cannot flash through bios itself through a usb stick with the bin file.

My goal is to get the new CPU to work and then will install ZIMAOS and create a mini home server but I was needing the I7-4790 to work.

Here is the link to the other post where it worked for them:

Thanks for the help!

Hi:

Below are the info and exe file links to the last BIOS update HP released for your PC's motherboard.

After you install this update you cannot go back to an earlier version.

Version 80.23

Thank you Paul,

I downloaded the file and then ran it and it created the files in the SWSetup folder. I tried running the SETUP file and a screen comes up for a very short moment (so quick there is nothing to read) and then nothing happens. I tried downloading and doing it again and it will not work.

I also tried running it with the Windows 10 compatibility troubleshooter thinking that it was needed since it was meant for windows 8. But that did not help either.

I also tried running the FLASH BAT file but it comes up with an error. So I am not sure what else to do now. Do you have an idea by chance? Is there another way to flash the BIOS?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know why the update won't work or what to do about it.

I've given that file to a few other forum members and they marked the post as solved.

I don't recall anyone having issues with the file.

From what you originally posted, you are currently at BIOS version 80.20. correct?

Your PC's system board ID is 2AF7, correct?

If so, I'm going to give you the links to 80.21 and 80.22.

80.21:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73001-73500/sp73062.html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73001-73500/sp73062.exe

80.22

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74198.html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74198.exe

80.21 Updated the Intel CPU microcode.

That might be the file that adds support for the i7-4790 processors.

After you update to 80.22, you cannot go back to a previous version.

Thank you for the help. I tried both of those versions and they were able to update the BIOS but they did not make it work for the CPU upgrade. With each try I would remove the CMOS battery for 10 minutes and then test it. Oh well, I tried and thanks for your help. Do you know anybody that wants to buy a I7-4790? 😊

Have a good one!

You're very welcome.

Sorry that those updates didn't get the processor to work.
