how can i exit BIOSsetup when normal exit or F9-esc doesn't work? It always jumps back to Exit yes

I know how frustrating it is when you're stuck in the BIOS and can't exit normally. Let's walk through a few steps to help you exit BIOS setup on your HP PC when F9, Esc, or even selecting "Exit > Yes" keeps looping back.

Try These Steps to Exit BIOS Properly:

1. Use F10 to Save and Exit

  • Press F10 (not F9). This is the standard key for Save and Exit.
  • When prompted, select Yes to confirm changes (even if you didn’t make any).


2. Reset BIOS to Default Settings

  • While in BIOS, press F9 to load Setup Defaults.
  • Then press F10 to Save and Exit.
  • This can help if a corrupted setting is preventing normal exit.


3. Disconnect External Devices

  • Power off the PC.
  • Disconnect all USB devices, including flash drives, dongles, and external keyboards/mice.
  • Restart and try exiting BIOS again; sometimes, peripherals interfere with BIOS navigation.


4. Perform a CMOS Reset (if nothing else works)

If the BIOS is truly stuck, you may need to reset the CMOS battery:

  • Power off and unplug the PC.
  • Open the case (if it's a desktop) or access the battery compartment (for laptops).
  • Remove the CMOS battery for 5–10 minutes, then reinsert.
  • This will reset BIOS settings and allow normal boot.

Thank you VikramTheGreat, taking the time to describe a complete workflow.

It worked properly with step 1) of your guideline. The real problem was somewhere else: the battery of the keyboard was on very low level and sending wrong signals to the PC - sorry for that but this may be a useful hint for other users.
