the bios updates I see in the drivers page are now 20, 12, 10 and 05. Not sure what else exactly was there that they removed.

I am going to ask this to be escalated for help from another HP specialist. Someone should be contacting you in the next few days I assume.

EDIT: Post escalated to an HP Support Employee.

You must have better access than I do, from your drivers link, all I see is F.20 Rev A. under BIOS

Previously there was F.21 and F.20. I also cannot understand why you do not see F.13, as this was the firmware previously on the motherboard that was installed.  F.21 was the forced update I received, which was readily available for download earlier.  F.21 download was SP112176 and F.20 is SP111266.

From my logs - HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.21.0.0 Successfully installed on ‎21/‎01/‎2021 (When all the trouble began)

HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.13.0.0 Successfully installed on ‎31/‎12/‎2020

Thanks for the escalation, I really do need help, it is dragging on and becoming very frustrating.

Yes, this is what I see for your specific model...

IT was probably updated again since you looked at it last.

Sometimes If you are using the HP Support assistant to update with, it might install a bios update that maybe wasnt intended to be added, or wasnt added to the drivers page yet. It can be glitchy that way. Thats why I DO NOT let the HP Support Assisant update the bios. Only the other drivers are OK to do that with.

Thanks, I did find out where the others were hiding in the end, just before you sent your reply. I had to expand F.20 and then select "See Full Details” and then expand “Revision History”. Still no F.13 which is puzzling!

As described in an earlier post, I did not get the F.21 update through HP support assistant, that was already turned off. It came through Windows update (as a forced update). Now I have manufactures updates disabled in windows.

I actually prefer to download my updates directly from the HP support site, that way you are in control on what is updating your machine. Windows update has caused many problems in the past with forced driver installs. Now they have backed away somewhat form this bad practice. But is seems, if they get them directly from the manufacture (such as HP), by default they are still forced on you.

Forcing drivers & firmware is a disaster waiting to happen, especially if there is no option to disable them. Another example is the forced BIOS update from the SSD drive, during the boot process. Causing the same issue to occur after a new motherboard was installed.

Well, I thought today was going to be a great day, when I saw HP had released a new BIOS firmware update F.22 for my HP envy All-in-One - 32-a1080a.

Reading the revision details it had all the fixes for the issues I was experiencing.

My excitement soon gave way to bitter disappointment, the CPU temperatures issues have not changed from F.21 and the bad practices are still in play. You cannot rollback to a working version of the BIOS.

Just doing a restart from Windows 10 still causes the CPU to go above 90% with the fans roaring on startup. Same issue in games; for example, if I play Heroes of Might and Magic VI (which is nowhere near the most taxing game on the market), the CPU will keep going higher until it is in the danger of crashing from overheating. While the GPU will sit in a comfortable low 70’s range.

If only they had allowed the rollback of the firmware to work, it would have at least allowed customers to have a useable PC again.

So frustrating!

Ill ask the mods if this can be looked at again. I'm guessing they were waiting to see if the new bios update would work?

I would offer you to try the USB flash method of bios flashing, but if it bricks the system, you are really up the creek. Ill keep fingers crossed HP contacts you.

I have already tried the USB flash option, makes no difference the rollback feature will not work. Same problem, will not let you install an earlier version over a later version installed. You can reinstall the same version, but despite giving you a rollback option on the menu, it will not allow you rollback.

It starts the process than fails with the message you already have the latest version installed.

Thanks for you help.
