Microsoft Windows 11

I am unable to change my app recommendation settings. I followed the instructions and got to the second step, where I found my first issue. I did not have the "Apps and Features" setting. I found the "press the windows key and R and input gpedit.msc," and I typed that in, but the code was not recognized. I am not able to download quite a few apps I would like to.

Hi @windowsuser1122,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're trying to adjust the app recommendation settings on your Windows computer but encountering issues with accessing certain settings or running commands. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you change app recommendation settings on Windows:

Option 1: Using Settings App (Windows 10 and 11)

Open Settings:

  • Click on the Start menu and select Settings (gear icon).

Navigate to Privacy Settings:

  • In the Settings window, click on Privacy.

Disable App Recommendations:

  • Under the Privacy settings, navigate to General.
  • Look for the option labeled "Show me suggested content in the Settings app" or similar.
  • Toggle this option to Off to disable app recommendations.

Option 2: Using Group Policy Editor (Windows Pro and Enterprise Editions)

If you're using Windows Pro or Enterprise editions, you can use Group Policy Editor to control app recommendations:

Open Group Policy Editor:

  • Press Win + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to App Recommendations Policy:

  • In Group Policy Editor, navigate to:

Modify App Recommendations:

  • Look for policies related to app recommendations or suggestions.
  • Double-click on the policy to open its settings, then set it to Disabled or Enabled as per your preference.
  • Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
