Hi @RBrown417
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Experiencing a delay before your HP 15-cs0034cl starts charging can be frustrating.
Here are steps you can take to identify and resolve the issue:
Check Charger and Cable:
- Inspect the charger and cable for any visible damage. A frayed or damaged cable could cause intermittent charging.
- Use a different charger if available to see if the issue persists.
Inspect Charging Port:
- Ensure the charging port on the laptop is free of dust or debris. Use a can of compressed air to gently clean the port.
- Check for any physical damage in the port that might be affecting connectivity.
Battery Health Check:
- Run HP's built-in battery diagnostics tool. You can access this by restarting the laptop and pressing Esc during boot-up and then selecting F2 for diagnostics.
- Check the battery health status to ensure it's functioning properly.
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website to check for any updates for your BIOS or battery management drivers.
- Install any updates that are available, as these can sometimes resolve charging issues.
Reset Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Choose HP recommended settings to ensure optimal battery and power performance.
- Resetting power settings to default might help rectify any misconfigurations.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
- Remove the battery (if it's replaceable; otherwise, skip this step).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the battery and charger.
Check Room Temperature:
- If the laptop is overheating, it might halt or delay charging to prevent further heat buildup. Ensure it is operating in a cooler environment.
If the issue persists even with the original charger and updated BIOS, it could be a failing battery or charging circuit.
Let me know if you’ve noticed any blinking LED patterns or if the battery percentage behaves oddly—I can help interpret those signals.

Thank you for your help. All of the instructions have been followed. The charger still does not indicate a connection (orange light or white light) until the laptop is left undisturbed for a period of time. If the battery is removed and the charger is plugged in, the white light illuminates immediately. If while the light is on and the battery is replaced, the light turns orange and the battery is charged.
