HP Beats All-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone

I am trying to add a second monitor to my all-in-one computer but the monitor nor the computer seem to recognise that a HDMI cable is plugged in.

The screen I am connecting to is a Dell screen.  When the HDMI cable is in my computer it just flashes black and back tot he main screen again.  Also the second monitor does not receive a signal.

Help please, searching and searching for an answer for days!

Many thanks

You might be able to use a USB 3.0 to HDMI out adapter.

This website has several examples:  https://www.startech.com/AV/USB-Video-Adapters/

The button is to tell your monitor to switch to the HDMI cable source in the back.  It won't output any signal.

@Bubbawellington

According to the HP Support site for your device, the HDMI port on the back of the unit is "HDMI IN", not HDMI Out....

Figure : Back I/O portsBack I/O ports

  1. DC power input
  2. DC power indicator
  3. Ethernet port
  4. USB 3.0 ports
  5. HDMI In port

It's for using another video source (like a video game platform) to play through your screen.

Thanks I thought that initially too but then found my model and the button on the side should change it over to in:

Figure : Left side of the system Left side of the system

  1. HDMI In button (To have the computer recognize an HDMI connection, press the HDMI In button when an HDMI cable has been connected in the rear HDMI port.)
  2. Media card reader slot
  3. Two USB 3.0 ports (bottom port provides USB Boost feature)
  4. Hard disk drive activity indicator
  5. Microphone/headphone jack

But it is not working.
