First off, are you REALLY using Windows XP? Asking because Microsoft dropped support for that YEARS ago and if you use it now and connect to the Internet, you're running a major risk of getting your PC infected with malware.

Second, are you just asking how to write a personal note that you can then print? OR, are you asking about a formal letter --  that would have a salutation, a body, and an closure?  And then, you ware wanting to print and mail it?

The latter  is a LOT more complicated and you would need some kind of Office software that has letter templates with it.
