Yesterday I installed the HP App from Microsoft Store.

Is this app meant to replace HP Smart, HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows, and HP Support Assistant apps ?

I have not had chance yet to explore it fully, but I still have the above three apps on the PC anyway for now.

Thanks.

A lot to take in there.

I have already downloaded and installed the HP App from Microsoft Store.

I didn't know there was a bug in HP Smart.

I will keep HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows anyway.  We also have the UEFI version installed.

We don't have HP Scan installed.  Presumably I might have to download the full package from the HP Support Page somewhere ?

It will take me quite some time to work my way through that little lot (a day or so).

I may have to get back to you as necessary.

Thank you very much again for your invaluable time, assistance, information and support.

You are welcome.

Nothing I've offered is worth a day of your time.

Don't do that.

Smiling.

-- Short version --

If you are using HP Smart,

If you run into the offset bug,

Install the HP App.

Go from there.

Next,

Yes, if you want the full driver -- which includes HP Scan - you need to install it.

If you would like us to look up the information for you, please tell us your printer model and OS / version.

OR

Find / Open the printer model

 Product Home - Printers

  1.  Enter the device type and model name of your HP product
  2.  Open the Software and Drivers page
  3.  As needed, enter / update and submit the Operating System / version

Next,

There are sometimes two versions of the EasyStart wrapper that should help you install the driver.

The "Internet" version requires that you select the full driver.

The "Offline Use Only" version, if offered, includes the full driver -- you don't have to select it.

Use which ever package you can get to install.

  • Depending on your printer model and OS/version, you might see a listing for the HP Universal Scan Software.
  • In general, if you manage to install the full driver, you need not install the Universal Scan Software.

Hello.  I apologise for the delay in replying to you.

The printer model we have is:  HP Envy 6032  (according to the label on the front of the printer).

I believe this is the relevant support page:

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/hp-envy-6000-all-in-one-printer-series/model/33518705

There is also a firmware upate listed there.  I don't actually know whether I need that or not.  At the moment, I am no going to risk doing that in case something goes wrong with the process.

At my age, and what with limitations and my lack of knowledge, plus the fact it can take me a very long time to get my head around anything, it will be  a very gradual process.  But one (hopefully) worth taking my time over.

At the moment the printer (seems) to be working OK, and I am being very cautious not to mess that up, as we never know when we're really going to need to use it.

Thank you for your patience though.

When I get time over the next couple of days, I will try and get to look at the links to the videos you posted, and watch those.

See if I can understand them !

You are welcome.

Fast is for the young and inpatient.

If it's all "too much", perhaps install and use the HP App until and unless you need to install the full driver.

For example, the full driver supports printing from within Word, supports printing from other programs, and adds access to the full range of Printing Preferences, all or none of which you might want or need.

-- At this writing --

The Firmware update is a couple of years old -- you need not worry about it.

Next,

There are two EasyStart installation packages, either of which can be used to install the full driver.

There is an additional package listed for the Universal Scan Software.

  • The Universal Scan Software is an essential match to the HP Scan software that is installed with the full driver.
  • If you install the full driver, you need not bother with the Universal Scan Software.

Web Pack Installation - Open Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

Wrapper Method -- Internet connection required

Download and install (run the exe)

Restart the computer after the software is installed.

OR

→ Hints →  The "Offline Use Only" installation can be used for a network connected or a USB connected environment.

Be sure to unplug the USB cable between the printer and the computer before loading the software.  Re-connect the USB cable when instructed to do so, generally near the end of the successful installation of the printer software.

Thanks for replying.  Sorry again for the delay in replying.

The HP app is already installed.

I think I will just leave things as they are for now, before installing the Universal Scan software (or the full driver).

Other than that, if I need to come back to you in the future I will.

It is all bit confusing, but thanks for your help once again.  I will need a bit of time to watch the videos and try and work out what is what, and what I will need to do.

Hello.

Apologies for not being fully able to complete the steps as requested.  This is in no way a reflection on yourselves, moreover it is down to my limited abilities, being cautious, and nervous.  Also, I am quite busy, so finding the time to do it is another factor.  I want to make sure that I get it right, and not mess it up.

On another note, I noticed that yesterday the Microsoft Store installed a HP Print Support Application.  I am not sure what that is ?

Also, the HP Smart app updated today.

No worries -- do what you want and can do.

Please ignore advice that does not fit or does not make sense for your situation.

If HP Smart is working, use it for as long as you want.

Next...

In my opinion, the journey to the "HP Print Support Application" is a bit convoluted.

As always --

Read or Ignore anything not wanted, poorly presented, nonsensical, or not needed.

AND

All of the following has been typed "on the fly" -- ignore mistakes or oddities.

"Way back When"

======================

HP Smart Printing

HP Smart application installation started including the HP Smart Printing driver for eligible printer models.  The HP Smart Printing driver is what I call an intelligent print driver -- "smart" is over-over-used by now but does work as a description.

📢 -- Brilliant Features --

HP Smart (application) print settings can "call" (be set to use) a Shortcut (Printing Preferences template) in More Settings.

HP Smart cannot, on its own, create and use custom Shortcuts -- that is, a pre-made configuration that can be used from one job to the next.

HP Smart Printing supports "Presets" -- that is, the concept of creating and using Custom Presets (Shortcuts).

HP Smart Printing (also) supports a number of additional nice features not generally found in HP Smart (application), including:

  • Watermarks
  • Scale / Resize
  • Paper Size
  • Alignment

-------------------------

HP Smart Printing works / worked with HP Smart (the application) and with other print software as a way to set up, manage, and configure print jobs.

HP Smart Printing introduced the idea of having two parts to the "Printer" and the print job setup:

  • Printer as Hardware -- the printer is the "final destination" of the print job settings.
  • Printer as a Driver -- the driver is the "middleman", that is, the menus and settings used to configure the job.

Older Example -- Adobe Reader DC - PDF - HP Smart Printing driver

PDF_Reader_HP_Smart_Printing_Booklet_6

Example - HP Smart (application) - HP Smart Printing (driver) - Print 4x6 inch Photo

HP_Smart_Win_Smart_Printing_Photo_4x6_Borderless_6

======================

HP Smart Universal Printing

Next -- or at the same time as "Smart Printing" was introduced in HP Smart (application)

HP Smart Universal Printing is (essentially) the same driver as the Smart Printing driver included with HP Smart (the application) .

At this writing, the HP Smart Universal Printing driver is still available at its own website.

WebPage – HP Smart Universal Printing Driver

HP Smart Universal Printing works with various other software to help the user configure a print job.

For example, like HP Smart Printing, HP Smart Universal Printing works with HP App, Word, Adobe Reader, and other software that includes a "print" feature in the software.

Like other "intelligent" drivers, HP Smart Universal Printing Driver supports Presets / Custom Shortcuts.

AND

Presets / Custom Shortcuts can be managed in the HP Smart Universal driver's Printing Preferences.

Example - HP Smart Universal Printing - Printing Preferences

HP Print Support Application

Recently (mid-2026?)

HP Print Support Application is a Microsoft based methodology that appears to include the HP Smart Printing / HP Smart Universal Printing driver wrapped in a new package and installation.

As of this writing, from HP --

I happen to have the Edge browser open at the moment --

The following is a BING AI answer to

"What is HP Print Support Application?"

The HP Print Support Application (HP PSA) is HP’s modern Windows 11 print‑driver solution built on Microsoft’s Print Support App and IPP class driver, providing advanced print settings for supported HP printers.

Overview

HP PSA is a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) print‑driver interface designed to simplify and modernize printing on Windows 11. It replaces older discrete drivers (and the former HP Universal Print App) for many HP DeskJet, ENVY, OfficeJet, Smart Tank, and LaserJet Pro models.

DragonFur_0-1789569328297.png

Key Functions

  • Uses Microsoft’s IPP class driver to deliver a customized print experience.
  • Offers advanced print options:
    • Color/grayscale
    • Duplex printing
    • Paper size/type selection
    • Watermarks
    • Multiple pages per sheet
    • Print quality adjustments DragonFur_1-1789569328299.png
  • Integrates with the HP Smart app for setup and full functionality. DragonFur_2-1789569328300.png

Supported Systems & Requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 11 or newer (including ARM64).
  • HP Smart app: Version 152 or newer recommended.
  • Printer connection: Wi‑Fi or Ethernet (USB not supported for many LaserJet Pro models).
  • Supported printers: Select HP DeskJet, ENVY, OfficeJet Pro, Smart Tank, and LaserJet Pro series. DragonFur_3-1789569328301.png

How It Works

HP PSA installs automatically when you set up a supported printer through the HP Smart app. Once installed, it appears under Printers & scanners in Windows and provides enhanced driver features through the print dialog.

DragonFur_4-1789569328301.png

Purpose

HP PSA modernizes HP printing on Windows by replacing multiple legacy drivers with a unified, feature‑rich, Microsoft‑aligned print architecture. This ensures consistent performance, easier updates, and improved compatibility across newer HP printers.

The HP Print Support Application is essentially HP’s streamlined, modern print‑driver solution for Windows 11.
