I was able to run all the steps you suggested.  I will let you know  tomorrow if it worked to stop the problems.

Once again, thank you for your assistance.

Is it ok to re-load HP Support Assistant?  or will that create new issues.

Hi @kjf18052,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your computer repeatedly tries to install HP Display Control Service, fails with Error 1603, and you want to stop the installation attempts. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Remove HP Display Control from Apps & Features
Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & Features).
If HP Display Control or HP Display Control Service appears, uninstall it and restart the computer.

Disable the HP installer scheduled task
Press Windows + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.
Under Task Scheduler Library, look for tasks related to HP Display Control or HP Software Component, then disable them.

Stop HP services related to the installer
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Look for HP Display Control Service or HP Software Framework Service, stop them, and set Startup type = Disabled.

Remove leftover installer files
Open File Explorer and check these folders:

C:\Program Files\HP

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP
Delete any HP Display Control folders if present, then restart the computer.

Install or block the component properly
If your system actually uses HP Display Control (common on Omen, Pavilion, or external HP displays), download and install the latest version from the HP driver page.
If not needed, disabling the scheduled task and service will stop the repeated installation attempts.

I hope this helps.

I found 0 relevant installed HP apps.

Also, nothing under taskschd.

There are 4 Hp-related services showing - not the ones on your list though.

All the ones present include HSA Service in their titles - are these safe? or should they be deleted?

The issues continues 14 attempts so far today.

THANK YOU for your help!!!

This is obviously frustrating.

Locate services containing HP Support Assistant or HSA Service.

Right-click each one, select Stop, then set Startup type to Manual.

Restart the computer.

Step 2: Remove HP Support Assistant

Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.

Uninstall HP Support Assistant and HP Support Solutions Framework if present.

Restart the computer.

Step 3: Remove HP PC Docks and Displays Diagnostics

Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.

Look for HP PC Docks and Displays Diagnostics Windows.

Uninstall it if listed.

Restart the computer.

Step 4: Clear Windows Installer temporary files

Press Windows + R, type %temp%, and press Enter.

Delete all files inside the folder.

Restart the computer.

Step 5: Install the latest HP Software Component once

Download the latest HP Display Control component from your HP PC driver page.

Install it once to complete registration.

Restart the computer and confirm installation attempts stop.

Hi @kjf18052,

Thank you for the update, glad to hear the installation loop has stopped.

Yes, you can reinstall HP Support Assistant safely. It should not recreate the issue as long as the previous corrupted components were removed (which you already did).

To reinstall cleanly, follow these steps:

Download the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the HP Support website.

Run the installer and complete the installation.

Restart the computer once installation finishes.

Open HP Support Assistant and allow it to check for updates.

Install only recommended updates, then restart again if prompted.

If you notice repeated installer activity again, you can disable automatic software updates inside HP Support Assistant settings while still using it for diagnostics and driver checks.

The HSA services you saw earlier are normal and safe, and they will reinstall automatically with HP Support Assistant.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Best Regards,

Strangely, I could not locate all the things you mentioned. But the error report clearly shows there is.
