Hi @MDSMITHSR,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. A screen flickering issue after entering your password on an HP laptop can be caused by a few different things, typically related to display driversbackground apps, or Windows Explorer issues. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot and fix it:

1. Check if Task Manager Flickers

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Observe:
    • If Task Manager flickers, it’s likely a display driver issue.
    • If Task Manager does NOT flicker, it’s likely a software/app conflict.

Let me know what you observe here—it helps narrow down the cause.

 2. Boot into Safe Mode

This helps isolate the issue:

  1. Hold Shift and click Restart from the login screen.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.

If the flickering stops in Safe Mode, it’s likely a driver or startup app issue.

3. Disable Problematic Startup Apps

Some apps like iCloudIDT Audio, or Norton have been known to cause flickering:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Startup tab.
  3. Disable all non-Microsoft apps.
  4. Restart your PC and check if the flickering stops.

4. Update or Roll Back Display Drivers

  1. Right-click Start > Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click your graphics driver (e.g., Intel, AMD, NVIDIA) and choose:
    • Update the driver, or
    • Roll back driver (if the issue started after a recent update).

5. Run HP Support Assistant

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
