Hi,

I recently purchased this monitor and am looking to update the driver, but I am having trouble doing so. The monitor is recognized by the OMEN Gaming Hub, and a notification indicates that a driver update is available.

I downloaded the drivers (sp157563 and  sp162868) and opened them as an administrator. However, when I try to run the updater, it says the device is not connected, even though it is clearly connected. I am using the monitor with a DisplayPort 2.1 cable.

My monitor is also not recognizing my laptop connected via Thunderbolt cable, plugged into the correct 140W DP port. This port is properly charging my device, but not recognized on the Omen Gaming Hub or as a display with the on-screen menu. My goal is to set up the Omen Gear Switch feature for my setup.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

Hi @j_salazarr

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry you’re running into trouble updating your HP Omen Transcend 32 monitor—it’s frustrating when everything seems connected but the updater refuses to cooperate.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help get the firmware installed and your Gear Switch setup working smoothly.

Steps to resolve “device not connected” during firmware update

1. Use USB-C for firmware updates

The firmware installers (sp157563 and sp162868) require the monitor to be connected via USB-C, not DisplayPort, for update recognition.

  • Connect your monitor to your laptop using a USB-C cable (not Thunderbolt or DisplayPort)
  • Ensure the cable supports data transfer, not just charging
  • Use the USB-C upstream port on the monitor (not the 140W charging port)
  • Reboot your system and retry the installer

2. Confirm USB-C connection in Device Manager

Windows must detect the monitor as a USB device.

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
  • Look for entries like HP OMEN Transcend Monitor or similar
  • If missing, try a different USB-C cable or port

3. Disable other display connections temporarily

To avoid confusion during update:

  • Disconnect the DisplayPort cable
  • Use only the USB-C cable during firmware installation
  • Once the update is complete, reconnect DisplayPort for regular use

4. Run the correct installer version

Each installer targets a specific firmware stage:

  • sp157563: Initial firmware update
  • sp162868: Latest firmware with Gear Switch enhancements

Start with sp157563, confirm success, then proceed to sp162868.

Thunderbolt port not recognized as display

Even though your laptop charges via the 140W DP port, it may not support video output over Thunderbolt through that port.

  • Confirm your laptop’s Thunderbolt port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode
  • Use a certified Thunderbolt 4 cable
  • Try the USB-C upstream port instead of the 140W charging port
  • Check the monitor’s input source setting via on-screen menu

Gear Switch setup tips

Once firmware is updated:

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub > Gear Switch
  • Assign input sources to profiles
  • Use the monitor’s joystick or app to toggle between devices

Let me know if the monitor is detected after switching to USB-C or if the firmware installer still doesn’t recognize it. Once the update is complete, your Gear Switch setup should feel seamless and responsive.
