Me again, Raj, I'm not ready to call it quits  yet 😊 I just noticed a site with a link where I can download HP Support Assistant on Google Chrome, they have a link for it.  I have Google Chrome so do you think that may work for me?  I'll wait to hear back from you before proceeding.

Also, in my computer settings it says Good news! Your computer is able to install Windows 11.  I'm still using Windows 10 so will take the plunge sometime in the New Year and install Windows 11.  So...when I install Windows 11, would the HP Support Assistant automatically be included/downloaded in the Windows 11?

Hi @Willow1949

Welcome to the HP support community.

I'm really glad to hear you're not ready to give up yet! 😊 Let’s work through this.

HP Support Assistant Download via Google Chrome

Yes, you can absolutely try downloading HP Support Assistant (HPSA) from the official HP website, and it can help you manage drivers, updates, and troubleshoot issues with your HP devices. If you came across a link in Google Chrome that takes you to a legitimate download page, you can safely go ahead and download it.

Here’s how to ensure it’s safe:

  • Go to the official HP website directly (support.hp.com).
  • Use this link https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/hp-support-assistant
  • Navigate to the section for "Support" and search for HP Support Assistant. You can also find it by searching "HP Support Assistant" directly in the search bar on their website.
  • Download the software from the official website to avoid any potential issues with third-party sites.

Once downloaded and installed, the HP Support Assistant can automatically check for system updates, drivers, and help resolve any device issues related to your HP printer or laptop.

What About Windows 11 and HP Support Assistant?

When you decide to upgrade to Windows 11, HP Support Assistant will not be automatically included in the operating system update itself. Windows 11 doesn’t come with HPSA preinstalled, so you’ll still need to download and install it manually, just like with Windows 10.

However, the good news is that you’ll be able to install HP Support Assistant on Windows 11 without any issues, and it will continue to help you with managing your HP devices just as it does on Windows 10. Once you upgrade, you can simply head to HP’s website again to download the latest version of the software for Windows 11 if needed.

To Summarize:

  • Yes, you can try downloading HP Support Assistant from the link you found in Chrome, but just make sure it’s the official HP website for safety.
  • Windows 11 won’t automatically include HP Support Assistant, but you can easily download and install it after you upgrade.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks ever so much again, Raj, for yet another great, detailed post suggestion.  I'll try your suggestions again over the weekend and let you know how I make out.  I did try downloading HP Support Assistant on the HP site using Chrome but a notice appeared telling me I didn't have a Chrome Book so I guess it has nothing to do with merely having Google Chrome as my web browser.  Excellent info too you provided with regards to Window 11.

Hi Raj, do you think I could be having problems downloading & installing HP Support Assistant because the "blue question mark" HIP Support Assistant icon is still showing on my Taskbar?  When I right click it, it says You'll need an app to open this HP  Support 'Assistant link.  Then right below this, Raj, it shows a blue Microsoft Store box and and below that it says Look for the app in the Microsoft Store.  Then, Raj, right below that there's a box with a check-mark that says Always use this app.  Then there's a grey box that shows OK but when I click OK nothing happens.

So....last night I went into the Microsoft Store and saw that as of a couple years ago you can no longer download HP Support Assistant on the Microsoft Store.

Lastly, Raj ~ When I left click the HP Support Assistant ?blue icon on my computer, it brings up Toolbars.  I can't see any applicable information on the Toolbars to my situation.  So later I'll continue trying with the download on the HP site but first I merely wanted to check with you re: my above ramblings 🙄

Hi @Willow1949,

Thank you for your response. It sounds like you're facing an issue where HP Support Assistant (HPSA) is not functioning properly, and the icon on your taskbar is causing confusion with an error message. Based on your description, I believe there are a couple of potential causes for the problem, and here are some steps you can follow to resolve it:

1. Check If HP Support Assistant is Already Installed

The "blue question mark" icon usually indicates that HP Support Assistant is installed, but it might not be working properly. If you click on it and it shows a message like "You'll need an app to open this link," it could be that the app itself is corrupted or not opening correctly.

Check via Control Panel:

  • Open the Control Panel (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Look for HP Support Assistant in the list of installed programs.
  • If it’s there, try right-clicking it and selecting "Repair" if the option is available.

2. Reinstall HP Support Assistant

Since HP Support Assistant is no longer available directly from the Microsoft Store, you can download it from HP’s official website.

Here’s how to proceed:

  • Go to the HP Support Assistant Download page.
  • Download the installer for HP Support Assistant.
  • Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the instructions to install or reinstall the software.

Note: If you previously had HP Support Assistant installed but it became corrupted, this fresh installation should resolve any issues.

3. Remove Existing Icon (If App is Corrupted)

If the blue question mark icon keeps showing up and clicking it does nothing, it’s possible that the app has become corrupted. You can try the following:

  • Unpin the Icon:
    • Right-click the blue question mark icon on the taskbar and choose Unpin from taskbar (this just removes the shortcut; it doesn't uninstall the app itself).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your thoughtful post, Rachel.  What happened is that I mistakenly/carelessly uninstalled my HP Support Assistant App around a week ago 😧 I've been trying to download and install it  again on the HP site but no luck.  I notice on the HP site for downloading HP Support Assistant it says to download and install HP Support Assistant 9 it requires Windows 10 RS4 or higher.  So...I just finished checking my Systems Settings which say EDITION: Windows 10 Home ~~~VERSION 22H2 (OS Build 19045.5131 ~~~64 bit operating system x64-based processor.  But I can't find anything listed on my System Settings saying 10 RS4.  I'll just start with this information and would ask you, Rachel, if from this above info it appears my computer is indeed able to download HP Support Assistant 9?

Hi Raj, I wanted to let you know I just got the HP Support Assistant downloaded and installed, what a relief.  I wish I could tell you what I did (LOL!) but all I can remember is that I used my Start Menu and found something about downloading HP Support Assistant.  I can't thank you enough for all the time you took to help me, Raj, you went way beyond the call of duty and I'm sending you a warm, virtual hug 🤗 and wishing you abundant blessings

Good news Raj and Rachel, I just got the HP Support Assistant App installed, what a relief.  Thanks ever so much for all your help and for going the "extra mile" for me.  I wish I could tell you how I got it installed (LOL!) but I did it by going into my Start Menu.  I appreciate the help you both gave me more than my words can say.

Hi Raj and Rachel.  As I let you know yesterday, I got the HP Support Assistant downloaded and installed.  Today I had 17 new messages from HP Support Assistant but they were all standard type messages with general information.

I also had one recommendation for Software & Drivers ~ HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (Rom Family SSID8446).  I'm hesitant to process this because on my previous HPSA I encountered problems with installing BIOS Updates.  And I just finished reading some posts on this HP Support Forum and saw other people encountered problems too.  What I was able to derive from reading the posts was not to bother unless it said the install was "critical".  So I merely clicked "Remind me in a week" until you provide me with feedback.  Thanks ever so much again to you both.
