Pavilion dv6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

1 Had a PC with HP Support Assistant, all working OK

2 Installed HP Support assistant on my Pavilion dv6

3  After installation  the both devices were picked up and the two devices show OK on both machines

4 However, the Pavilion shows that the PC (the other device) has updates available, none for its self!

5  But on the PC it tells me no updates are available.

6  What is going on here?

Short Answer:

HPSA cannot provide accurate results for any remote device.

HPSA is for "local machine" where the software is installed.

 

Longer Answer:

 

HP Support Assistant does not (at this writing) have the ability to really know what is available for updates on any machine except the local machine on which the software is installed.

 

That means that HPSA cannot tell you whether updates are actually available for that remote machine.

 

Nope, not ideal.  That's the way it works (or does not work, in this case).

 

Caveat:

If the local computer is migrated past the version where HP drivers are available, HPSA will perhaps not realize the reason it cannot find any updates for the local machine is because there are not any available for the current version of the OS.  This inability to understand what is going on may cause HPSA to spin in circles instead of just saying, "No, there are no drivers for your installed version of Windows".
