HP Envy Recline 27 Touchsmart

Hey all,

I have a HP Envy Recline 27 k000 TouchSmart.  I have 2 questions regarding it.  And in advance thanks so much for anyone who comments or gives any support / advice!  Currently I get a bootup run disk error.  The common

Hard Disk 2 (3F2)

My questions is, is Hard Disk 2 on this machine the actual removable hard drive?  I thought that was HD1, it serverly has slowed down the machine.  I have done everything minus completly replacing that harddrive.

I took it in to a "local specialist" and he informed me it was an internal chip on the mother board, and when I try to look around I dont see that at all, when I pull the machine open all I see is the Hard Disk, both Ram dimms channel A & B and also a USB thumbnail that my guess would be the bluetooth connnection to the keyboard and mouse?

I have ran the generic tests and have come up with both pass and fail, more pass then fail.

So is Hard Disk 2 (3F2) is that the actual main hard drive?

Also my second question is how do I actually get into the bios of this machine?  I have pressed ESC / F2 / F10 and everything all it does is take me to the main black bootup system info screen.  I have never had a more difficult time getting into a bios lol.

I have gone ahead and reinstalled the mSTAT SSD and I can now get into the bios.  Oddly somehow, in someway I cannot explain that HARD DISK 2 was stopping me from getting into the BIOS.

I thank you for all your advice and links that you provided.  You have been of great assistance!

@SirDurbs,

Try the following:  turn on unit, press ESC key, the press f10.

There are 12 different k000.  The k000a and k000ej.  Please specify. Each has a different hard drive type. But both only have a single drive. The reference to the 3F2 refers to the small mSATA mSSD.

@Huffer has explained it here.  That is why the problem(s).  He also offers a fix.

@wb2001 Thanks so much for commenting on this.  I will surely look at that article that @Huffer posted.  I will look into the fix as well.

If by chance I need to replace that mSATA / mSSD are their any tutorials / videos on where its located and how I can replace it?

My other problem is doing what you said hitting the ESC key, then f10 it still only brings me to just a generic boot up information screen, it does not bring me to the bios.  I can get into the system diagnostics but not the system bios.

The model number is a K150 it was purchased at Best Buy

@SirDurbs,

Thanks for the model #.  Here is the support page. It shows a pic of the 16GB mSata/mSSD. Another example of what a typical mSata/mSSD looks like. There are 2 different scenerio's.  Can it still boot to the desktop?  Yes or No???

If "YES", you have to follow the advice by Huffer.

If "NO", the mSata is being used as a file cache. It does not contain any part of the WIN 10 OS.   You can just get a new 16GB mSata/mSSD and replace it.

The BIOS issue and internals question, I am still searching.

Thanks,  I looked into that link and just ended up ordering a new mSATA as it has been having problems for sometime.

I replaced a 16gb with a 32gb for the same price, so I guess thats a win.

Yes indeed the bios is odd.
