I want to change the local computer name--user account administrator.  I can't find a way to do this without starting over with the operating system.  Is there a way to change the name?

Your System - one of:

Results for "envy 700" (246)

You can change the name of the computer:

Control Panel > icon view > System > Advanced System Settings >

tab Computer Name >

Next to To rename this computer or change its domain.... > Click Change

NOTE:

As a rule, for home use, do not change the name of the workgroup.

You cannot change the name of the built-in "Administrator" account.

To create an Admin account on the computer whose home folder (in C:\Users\) is named how you like -- and still use your Microsoft login:

  • Create a LOCAL User Account on the computer
  • After the account is created >
  • Edit the account and change the type to Administrator >
  • Log into the new local account >
  • Windows key > Settings > Account > Sign in with a Microsoft Account

Thank you so much for your response.  I realized I asked the wrong question.  I wanted to change the admin user name, but with your response, I did go to the control panel and started to follow the path to rename the computer.  There I saw the link to change the user account name.  It is done.  Thanks again for guiding me to the right question and answer.
