Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In 2017 I bought an HP Pavilion Desktop 510-p114 computer. In its system tray is a blue circle with a white outline and a white question mark inside the circle. That is the HP Support Assistant and it came with the computer. Sometimes a white exclamation point appears on a small red circle that partially covers the Support Assistant icon. If I click it I'm taken to the HP site where I can get messages and software updates.

I have since installed an HP 2652 inkjet printer. About 3 weeks ago the exclamation point appears and when I click it I get a message telling me that an update for my model of printer is available. I think the update changes the printer software so that the printer will not print unless genuine HP cartridges are installed. I can't find any way to get rid of or ignore the message.

If I right-click the Support Assistant icon a pop-up list appears. If I then click "Toolbars" on the pop-up menu I can dismiss the icon but after a couple of minutes it comes back. I don't want to uninstall any HP apps that were installed when I installed the printer, I just want to eliminate the messages regarding the printer software update. How can I do this?HP Support Assistant Icon.jpg

yea, I just read the warning on that firmware release.  Fortunately, my CM1415 and J4690 have not been affected (yet)

You can remove the printer from HPSA by clicking your account (name or initials) then select "View Profile" and remove the printer by clicking the "X" in the circle.

It is always possibly that HP will sneak in a printer update through the Microsoft Windows Updates instead of HPSA.  You can always disable 3rd party windows updates.

That firmware update was released Oct 7, 2022.  I suspect it will not take long before workarounds are released.

Hi BeemerBiker,

Thank you for your help but sorry, I looked all around . I signed into my HP account at HP.com but I could not find the words "View profiles" that you posted, and so I cannot remove the printer by clicking the "X" in the circle. I can't even find anything close to the image that you posted.

IMHO (and this is nothing against you, thank you again for the help) the HP website is way too complicated to be of much use to me, and I've been using the web for the last 25 or so years. in a variety of user forums.

How do I remove device from HP Support Assistant

If you remove a device from hpsa, you will no longer be able to use the options for it
for driver search problems, you have to deactivate the automatic search, so that you don't get annoyed if that's what it's all about

HP Support Assistant is an application on the desktop.  There is nothing to sign into, you just run the app.

At the top of app is a button with your initials, name or maybe just the name of the computer.

Click on it to get the dropdown box

Thank you for sticking around and helping me.

According to instructions I read in this forum, I reset the HP Support Assistant  and rebooted the computer. The Support Assistant appeared in the lower right corner of the screen but without the checkmark across it. Maybe that fixed my problem, I"ll hafta wait and see.

I opened the Support Assistant and found that only the computer was displayed. No printer. And my name was displayed in the upper right corner. I know that I and "add" a device (in this case my HP 2652 scanner/printer) but I think I'll just hold off with that until ???

Thanks again for your help.
