When I go into CMD drive D:\ is not there.  I have searched everywhere for it and I know it exists as it is there in File Explorer and all of my files are stored there.  Can anyone tell me how to navigate there?  Thanks

Sorry, I did not understand at the beginning, because you were asking how to find him
yes, in fact, it's just a command error
what exactly do you want to do with cmd
Be careful because if you are not used to the console you could make a serious mistake

the letter would therefore be E for me

The only thing is that if I open CMD I can obviously see the the C:\ drive but if I type in D:\ it tells me: "D:\ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

"

oh maybe

if tip e:\  bad

tip e:   ok

try this just tip D  and just  :     without \

if the hdd drive has the letter d

@KenS101 --  I know it exists as it is there in File Explorer and all of my files are stored there.

If you click with the second (usually the right-hand side) mouse-button on the icon for one of those files, and choose "Properties", what do you see for the "Location", such as:

Capture.JPG

Do you see a "Location" that starts with "D:\" ???

HP Recommended

Yes - when I right-click on any file and click properties it give the location as D:\

The files you are talking about, do you have them in the explorer, under drive D?
Do you have the HDD visible here with the data?
If so, can you expand or nothing is possible?

give some captures, it may be clearer

one like here

Hello and thank you for your replies.  To answer your questions:

The files you are talking about, do you have them in the explorer, under drive D? Yes they are all present in explorer.
Do you have the HDD visible here with the data?  I can see all the drives with the data
If so, can you expand or nothing is possible?  I can expand and find all my files

The only thing is that if I open CMD  I can obviously see the the C:\ drive but if I type in D:\ it tells me: "D:\ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

My machine is the HP Pavilion All-in-One 27-r0xx  with a 1TB drive (SATA) which I think is not a rotating disk.
As I am able to access all of my files on the D drive there is no real problem and I think I should just forget about trying to locate them at the Command prompt.

I do sincerely thank you for your help.

@KenS101 --  When I go into CMD drive D:\ is not there like this ?

In the "LTR" (letter) column, I see that "D" is present, and it is associated with your CD/DVD device.

Previously, did you have any media inserted into the CD/DVD device?
