Hp Compaq 6200 Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ok so I have a couple of hp Compaq 6200 pros that were happily upgraded with Xeon E3 1230 v2 and also E3 1240 v2. these are basically I7 ivy bridge equivalent cpus. although these cpus were never "officially" supported they ran great on an older bios i think it was v2.15 . now I upgraded one of these machines to 2.28 and right after the update the machine gives me no boot up just 6 beeps and thats it, basically the machine is now a brick.

now if i find one of the old i3 cpus that shipped with these machines and put that inside the machine will boot up and work just fine. So from these results you can figure that they 100 percent snatched the Xeon cpu microcode out of the newer bioses without warning. and seeing that these bioses are supposedly not downgradeable by normal means we have a dilemma. if the bios could somehow be downgraded to 2.15 the faster xeons could be used again. if they cant be downgraded then the only other option would be to somehow inject the xeon microcode back into the newer bios and reflash that to restore xeon support. although i can troubleshoot and repair pcs to a great extend i have zero knowledge with modifying bioses. and it will take someone that knows what they are talking about to solve this issue. please dont give me any speeches about a cpu not being supported bla bla bla. it was supported and then removed from  the bios update.  We would never innovate if we stopped everytime something was unsupported.

In checking the BIOS updates for that PC, I found that updating to a BIOS version of  v02.27 Rev.A  or v02.28 Rev.A  prevents downgrading to a lower version.

ALERT: This BIOS includes critical updates. Once the system is updated to this
version, rollback to previous versions is restricted. This restriction
also applies to BIOS recovery files.

I am not able to assist with getting back to a lower version BIOS file because of that restriction.  Perhaps the wise people at Wim Bios can be of some help with fixing that issue or just replace the BIOS.

That's a nasty surprise when trying to do the right thing.  I'm not sure if I'm supposed to refer to other forums but what you are talking about, ie reflashing/reprogramming bios is found here:
