I purchased Iolo System Mechanic via an offer from HP. Since a recent software update in System Mechanic every time it runs it not only deletes all of my Mozilla Firefox bookmarks, but also all of my stored sign-ins and passwords. There is no option in System Mechanic that allows bypassing specific files, but only specific programs. I have verified this with both HP desktops I own.
I have tried contacting Iolo, but they do not show me as a registered owner of the software since I purchased it via HP and will offer no support.

Hi @Altair8800,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

System Mechanic is developed and maintained by iolo Technologies, and it is not an HP software product. While HP may have offered it as part of a promotion or bundle, HP does not provide technical support for third‑party applications like System Mechanic.

Since you are experiencing issues with Firefox bookmarks and saved credentials being deleted after updates, the best course of action is to contact the point of purchase.

Hi Altair8800,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I wanted to follow up with you on this issue.

I spoke with a member of the iolo System Mechanic Support Team. They recommended the following steps:

  1. System Mechanic's privacy/cleanup tools can strip Firefox data if certain settings are enabled.
  2. To prevent this, open System Mechanic → Settings → Privacy Settings
  3. Uncheck "Remove privacy items during a clean" and "Saved Passwords" and save.
  4. For added protection, they can also exclude their Firefox profile folder from cleanup scans. It's typically found at C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.

They also wanted to reach out about the registration issue, so that you can receive direct support from iolo in the future. Please let me know if this would be helpful so we can work to get them in touch with you.

Thank you for being part of the HP Community.
