I recently purchase a monitor and it came with a wired keyboard. However the top keys (the audio control, screen brightness control, etc) aren't working properly. When i press the increase audio it switches tabs.

@Nat157, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a keyboard issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the Function (Fn) lock might be enabled or reversed. On HP keyboards, the top row of keys (F1–F12) can perform either media controls (volume, brightness, etc.) or standard function keys (F1, F2, etc.), depending on the Fn key settings.

Toggle Fn Lock

Try pressing Fn + Esc to toggle the function key mode.

  • If media keys start working normally, the issue is resolved.
  • If not, try the next fix.

Change Fn Key Behavior in BIOS

  1. Restart your computer and press F10 (or Esc, then select BIOS) as it boots up.
  2. In BIOS, navigate to Advanced > Device Configuration.
  3. Look for Action Keys Mode or Function Key Behavior.
  4. Change it to Enabled (if you want media keys to work by default) or Disabled (if you prefer F1–F12 as primary).
  5. Save and exit.

Check Keyboard Drivers

  1. Right-click the Start button and go to Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards and right-click your HP keyboard.
  3. Select Update driver > Search automatically.
  4. Restart your computer and test the keys.

If the issue persists, let me know your HP monitor and keyboard model! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
