Hi @BGS30,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your Microsoft Office is asking you to sign in with a Microsoft account again, and you don’t have one to activate your pre-installed Office. Let’s go through a few steps to get this resolved.

1. Check What Version of Office You Have

Pre-installed Office on new PCs is usually Office Home & Student (perpetual license) or Office 365 trial/subscription.

Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps and check the exact name (e.g., Microsoft 365, Office Home & Student 2021).

2. Look for an Office Product Key

If your PC came with a perpetual license (like Office Home & Student), it should include a 25-character product key (printed on a card inside the box, on the invoice, or sent via email).

If you find it, you can activate Office without needing a Microsoft account.

3. Check if It’s a Trial Version

Many new PCs only include a 1-month Microsoft 365 trial, which requires a Microsoft account to activate.

If it’s a trial, the only way forward is to create a Microsoft account to continue.

4. Try Activating Through Office Apps

Open Word or Excel → If you see a prompt, choose “I have a product key” instead of signing in.

Enter the 25-digit key if available.

5. Use an Offline Installer (if you have the key)

Go to https://setup.office.com.

Enter your product key, and it will let you download and install Office without needing to purchase again.

6. If You Don’t Have a Key and It’s a Trial

You’ll need to create a Microsoft account (it’s free) and link Office to it.

This account will be required for future re-installation or license recovery.

I hope this helps.
