Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an old HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7585.se-a (Product#: RA979AA-B1U) that has been in storage for ages, and I am now interested in doing something with it, and updating its BIOS. The current BIOS version is 3.10, but I am unable to find a later version for download other than this one.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software9/COL20731/pv-54525-1/sp35153.exe

Which I found in this thread.

I am unsure whether the available BIOS update is compatible with my system. Could someone please provide a download link for the latest and appropriate BIOS version, or confirm whether the BIOS version linked above is compatible with my system? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank you.

Hi:

The thread you posted doesn't open for me.

The latest BIOS update I could find for the MS-7225 Motherboard is 3.14.

I zipped it up and attached it below.

The problem is...the file was written to be run on XP, and I have no idea what will happen if you run it on W7.

Hi,

Thank you kindly for your reply. Perhaps this link will work better: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktops-Archive-Read-Only/BIOS-backup/m-p/5771976/highlight/true#M506....

I will create a bootable USB with Windows XP, so that won't be any problem.

Thank you once again, and thank you for your time and assistance. I’m amazed at how quickly I received the help I needed.

Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

You're very welcome.

Your PC has an AMD processor, doesn't it?

I think that is what the 'a' in the m7585.se-a stands for.

The discussion you posted for the model sold in the UK has an Intel processor and has a different motherboard.

Yes, that's correct. After all these years, the "-a" finally makes sense.
Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Hello again,

I installed Windows XP just incase Windows 7 would interfer with the BIOS update. However the update process gets stuck at "Please wait... Update in progress... WARNING!!! Do NOT power off your PC!" Although, I am able to restart the PC without any apparent issues.

Could you please advise on what might be causing this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Unfortunately that I don't know, and suggest that you don't continue to try and update the BIOS

HP Recommended

It’s not that the BIOS update includes any critical features, but I thought it would be beneficial to have the latest version.

However, I will of course follow your recommendation.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
