I have an HP Pavilion p6-2112 Desktop PC (yes, I know it's old) and it's running Windows 10 version 21H1.
When the Windows Update came out on August 9, 2022, I've been unable to install the 2022-08 Security Update for Windows 10 version 21H1 for x64 based systems.
I've already chatted with someone from Microsoft's Get Help, but he didn't seem to make a difference.
I found an article and under the heading of "known issues", they say, "Some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) firmware might not allow for the installation of this update." They're solution is, "To resolve this issue, contact your firmware OEM."
Has anyone found a solution to this Windows Update error?

Hi:
I had the same issue with one of my older PC's.
The update would not install either via Windows Update or manually with the standalone download from the Microsoft Update catalog.
My assumption is there is a hardware incompatibility of some kind with that update.
I gave up and ran the handy Microsoft Hide Windows Update utility to prevent that update from trying to install and failing.
If you want to do that, I have zipped up the utility and attached it below.
Download, unzip and run the utility.
The utility will run and find the update. Check the box to hide the update.
The utility will run again and report the problem is fixed.
Restart the PC and if the update is still there, you can try and run it and it will disappear.
