Hi @lolaaaaa

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If JPEGs aren’t opening on your HP Pavilion with Windows 10, that usually comes down to either a default app issue, a corrupted app, or the files themselves being damaged.

Let’s fix it step by step:

Step 1: Check if the files are OK

Try opening the same JPEGs on another device (phone or another PC).

If they work elsewhere → the problem is with your PC.

If they don’t work anywhere → the files themselves are corrupted.

Step 2: Reset Default Photo App

Windows 10 sometimes loses track of the default app for pictures.

Right-click any JPEG file → Open with → choose Photos (or another app like Paint).

Check "Always use this app to open .jpg files".

Try opening again.

Step 3: Repair or Reset the Photos App

If Windows Photos is broken:

Press Windows + IAppsInstalled Apps (or Apps & Features).

Scroll to Microsoft Photos.

Click Advanced options → click Repair.

If that doesn’t work, click Reset.

Step 4: Install an Alternative App

If you still can’t open JPEGs:

Install a free viewer like IrfanView or XnView.

Or use Microsoft Paint (right-click → Open with → Paint).

Step 5: Update Windows & Drivers

Press Windows + IUpdate & SecurityCheck for updates.

Install any pending updates.

Restart your PC.

Step 6: Check File Extensions

Sometimes files are mislabeled.

Right-click the file → Properties.

Ensure it says .jpg / .jpeg and not something else.

In most cases, Resetting the Photos app (Step 3) fixes this instantly.
