I think the uninstall will work fine.

Gimp is a robust program full of photo editing features.

It is fantastic that it is free.

I would put it in a class with some of those free open office programs such as Libre Office, that work almost the same as Microsoft Office.

You can even view and edit Microsoft Office files with these free programs.

I have no doubt that you will like it.

You can remove 'red eye', you can remove images in the background you don't want...just a ton of things you can do with it.

Yes, I have been watching many YouTub videos on it and they have been working on it (Gimp) for years and years. Funny they haven't tried to market it. I have PhotoShop Elements 10 on one of my computers and Gimp seems to do everything that Elements does but does it for free. Making transparent background on images is actually easier on Gimp than PS Elements.  Thanks for the extra input as it makes me more confident to give it a try.

I read in the FAQs of the Gimp site that it is NOT support for Windows 10.  I use Windows 10 - I know you have installed it, do you use Windows 10?

HP Recommended

Yes, it works fine on W10.

I had no problems with it.

All of my PC's run W10, except one old laptop I have XP on.

Great, I was worried there for a minute. I have 5 computers 3 desktops, and 2 laptops. All are running Windows 10 except one old laptop that is running Windows 7.  I really like Windows 10.  Been real stable for me and I find it read easy to use. I like some of the new features, like the new Task View button.

Hi Paul,

This reply is about the Gimp free maging software program, but first let me explain something pretty neat. I have the registered (NOT free $$$$) PaintShop Pro and also the PhotoShop Elements (Not free $$$$) programs on my computers. One of the things I was wanting to do most is be able to make the background on an image transparent. I tried and tried and watched many YouTube videos but could get them transparent but each of those programs always left a small amount of what I call smattering (a few pixels here and there that didn't get transparent (even 1 pixel not transparent is real noticeable on a web page background. Also, they where time comsuming to work with. You have to carefully and slowly draw around the image with a tool called a Magic BackgroundEraser Tool. That takes a lot of time and you have to very carefull not to touch the actual image or it may erase part of that as well. Then after you've gone through all that it still leaves traces of the background that didn't transparent. Some are only a pixel or two and are hard to see untill you place the image on a colored backgound of a web site and they show up like a sore thumb.

I downloaded and installed Gimp (free - zero money) and it take about 2 minutes to make a backgound on a image and it does all the work for you and it does and it never misses a single pixeel. I am soooooo impressed!

Here is a link for a Video on making a transparent backgound using GIMP.  It is short and so simple. Once the image backgound is transparent (and you'll know because of the gray checkerboard affect, of course) then you click on Save and it will save your image to whatever directory you choose and will give it a .xcf file extension so that if you ever want to make any changes to it you can just open it back up with that .xcf file. Then once that's done, you'll click on Fiile on the top menu bar and drop down to Export and then just follow the prompts.

I haven't tried the resize and crop features but they are usually pretty eacsy in all the imaging software so I don't expect any trouble with those. Also, the installation was so simple and fast.

Here is that link to a video that is short to watch but he explains it so simply.

Just had to let you know for your own purposes and if anyone needs help with transparecy on images Gimp is the way to go and this video would be of great help to them.

Best Wishes for the Holidays and New Year!

Larry
