Z800
Linux

Good day,

We are using HP workstations 8000 series and Z800 series running RedHat Linux. I am trying to run a report on the machines that indicates wether or not a BIOS Admin Password is set on each machine. In other machine brands we use Linux commands like (dmidecode or lshw) which can give the status as enabled/disabled. However, in the HP models mentioned above these commands don't give that output. In other words the part of the output that would normally show this information is blank.

How can I get the status of the BIOS Admin Pass from within the OS?

Is there a tool or a command that I can use to get that?

Hello,

Removing the cmos battery may not clear bios pw.
There are windows utilities that will clear bios pw.
Possibly "Hirons Boot Cd" has such utils.

There is some info/suggestions here

Check the link at bottom of the page for pw removal windows util.

Some more utils at the bottom of this page

Thanks!

hello sathya11,

thanks for your reply. However, I don't want to clear bios pw. What i need is a way to display the status of the bios password (whether or not it's set on a given host) from within Linux OS. The commands to do that don't seem to work on HP machines they work on other brands though.
