Good evening, I am writing to you because I want to update HP Support Assistant to the latest version. However, the Windows update I have is 22h2, and the computer is not a product tested by HP for the HP Support Assistant update or for the drivers. I have referred to HP's table of tested products, and the model and name of the computer are not on the list.
I want to update the HP Support Assistant because the old one has issues and does not work properly. When I turn on the PC, it appears pinned to the taskbar. When I remove it from that location, it disappears but later reappears without me having executed it, causing failures in the computer and the message of an unhandled exception in the application. Please provide me with an effective and practical solution that is not lengthy or too technical because I do not understand much about programming or other complex aspects of the computer.
The name of the PC is: HP Pavilion All-in-One 24-r0xx. I would be very grateful for your response. Thank you.

@Esra3, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating that can be, especially when the HP Support Assistant keeps reappearing and causing errors. Let's go step-by-step in a simple and practical way, without anything too technical.
✅ What’s Happening:
Your HP Pavilion All-in-One 24-r0xx is not on HP's list of tested devices for Windows 22H2, so the latest HP Support Assistant (HPSA) may not work properly. The version you currently have is glitchy, and trying to update it the usual way either fails or doesn't fix the problem.
✅ Easy Solution Steps:
🧼 Step 1: Completely Uninstall the Current HP Support Assistant
- Press Windows + R on your keyboard.
- Type: appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
- In the list, find HP Support Assistant.
- Right-click it and choose Uninstall.
- Also uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework if you see it listed.
📌 Restart your PC after this step.
🔄 Step 2: Install an Older Compatible Version of HP Support Assistant
Since the new version doesn't work with your PC + Windows version, we'll install a stable older version that does.
- Go to this direct download link for version 8.8.34.31 (which works better on many unsupported devices): 👉 Download HP Support Assistant 8.8.34.31 (SoftPaq)
- After downloading, run the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install.
- Once done, restart your PC again.
🔒 Step 3: Disable Automatic Pinning or Launch at Startup (Optional but Helpful)
If HPSA still appears at startup or pins itself to the taskbar:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Click the Startup tab.
- Find HP Support Assistant, right-click it, and choose Disable.
This prevents it from auto-launching or causing trouble at startup.
✅ After This:
- HP Support Assistant will be more stable.
- You won’t get constant pop-ups or exceptions.
- It won’t auto-pin or slow down your PC.
🟡 Final Tip:
If you're still facing errors after all this, you can also just disable HP Support Assistant permanently and manually check for updates on HP website for drivers when needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Good evening, I am the person who wrote this topic: The Windows 22H2 update does not support the HP Support Assistant update. I have a question to ask you; my version of Windows 22H2 brought along an unhandled exception issue in the application, which causes this message to appear. The implications are that operating programs fail, files cannot be saved either because they get lost or because they need permissions. Several solutions were tested: SFC scanning, deleting temporary files, restarting the PC, using the Windows update troubleshooter, restoring and repairing system files, freeing up disk space, etc., but none of them worked. After some time, the message appears again. I would like to know how to solve this issue in a simple and not too technical way because I saw a solution that involves using the command prompt and completing the missing partition. My question is: is it necessary to solve this issue first before addressing the problem of the Windows 22H2 update not supporting the HP Support Assistant update? I fear that if I solve the HP assistant problem, then since the computer has this unhandled exception issue in the application, there may be a clash between the two problems and the PC might get damaged. Please help me solve these two problems. Thank you.

Hi @Esra3
Thanks for getting back to us.
Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊
It sounds like you're dealing with a complex situation involving both the unhandled exception issue and the HP Support Assistant compatibility problem.
Let’s break this down into manageable steps:
Step 1: Address the Unhandled Exception Issue First
The unhandled exception issue seems to be causing broader system instability, such as failing programs and lost files. Resolving this first is crucial because it could interfere with any other troubleshooting steps, including fixing the HP Support Assistant problem. Here’s a simple, non-technical approach:
Run a System Restore:
- Open the Start menu and search for System Restore.
- Select a restore point from before the unhandled exception issue began.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system.
Check for Corrupted User Profiles:
- Sometimes, unhandled exceptions are tied to corrupted user profiles. Create a new user account and see if the issue persists when logged into the new account.
Update Windows:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and ensure your system is fully updated. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches for known issues.
Reinstall Problematic Applications:
- If the unhandled exception is tied to a specific application, uninstall and reinstall that application.
Step 2: Resolve the HP Support Assistant Issue
Once the unhandled exception issue is resolved, you can safely address the HP Support Assistant compatibility problem. Here’s how:
Uninstall the Current Version:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps and uninstall HP Support Assistant.
Download a Compatible Version:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest version of HP Support Assistant compatible with your system.
If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
