try other  USB ports , usb2 and 3,  if it has usb3 ports use usb 2.

 try new USB cable.

reload the printer software from HP?

make sure USB port driver is present, and used, is ok in device manager,  on my elitebook usb ports are dead, usb 3.

they are dead because not supported by HP for w10, so found them at NEC for USB3 chip and fixed my elitebook that way.

; SCAN THE PC FOR MALWARE?

TASK MANAGER LOOKING OK? no CPU overloaded,  at 99%

do a hard reset on the printer yet, and then reforce it back to USB  mode? (if printer ;has 2 modes wifi/usb, reset it)

read   your w10 event logs?

hoping for you, that my ALL solutions are more...
