Hi @Okbuddy425,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP desktop is stuck on the message: "Updates are underway, please keep your computer on" even after multiple restarts, it likely means the update process is frozen or corrupted. Here’s how to fix it:

1. Force a Hard Shutdown

  1. Hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds until the PC turns off.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  3. If it returns to the same screen, proceed to the next step.

2. Boot into Windows Recovery

  1. Turn on the PC and force shut down as soon as the HP logo or spinning dots appear.
  2. Repeat this 3 times to trigger Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  3. On the 4th boot, you should see the “Preparing Automatic Repair” or “Choose an option” screen.

3. Use Advanced Recovery Options

Once in WinRE:

  • Select Troubleshoot
    • Then try:
      • Startup Repair (first)
      • If that fails, go to Advanced Options > System Restore (if you have a restore point)
      • Or Uninstall Updates > Uninstall the latest quality update

4. Safe Mode (Optional)

If the above doesn’t work:

  • Go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
  • Press F4 to boot into Safe Mode
  • Once in Safe Mode, restart normally to see if the update completes or clears

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
