Have had a windows update today and HP One Agent (HPOA) is back.

Disabling scheduled tasks in my case does not work : reboot and HPOA is back again.

Autoruns (admin mode)/ uninstall via control panel -> it comes back

Revo uninstaller (admin)+ autoruns (admin) was successful.

I disabled windows update for 2 weeks, waiting for HP answers about HPOA.

Probably shall drop my old HP Office jet for another brand.

You seem to know a lot about uninstalling this software. Can you explain, in as much detail as you know, what it actually does? I don't have any HP devices (scanner, printer) and am trying to determine whether it's doing something else useful, or if I, too, can get rid of it. My "chat" with HP was not very informative.

Thanks!

I have the same issues with HP One Agent on my HP Desktop.  I have tried all the posted methods for stopping it and/or uninstalling it but it always comes back and now I think I know what it is and why you can't stop it or uninstall it permanently.

After examining some of the logs created during reinstallation and searching the net I came across some interesting findings.

HP is or has been utilizing an advanced AI enhanced tracing/tracking technology provided by a company called Dynatrace.

Dynatrace provides this technology to many customers and while it's highly likely this software is not dangerous to your system; I think it is certainly something we should be concerned about because in the logs there exists phrases that say,

"Cloaking Enabled" and "Attempting to enable all disabled privileges before calling install on server" That sounds pretty ominous to me.  I think HP has encountered some unanticipated bugs with the implementation and we are experiencing the result.  I don't think it is even possible for any user to permanently uninstall this tracking/tracing software.  HP needs to come clean regarding this issue and fix the bugs.  Check out the attached links.  If the links don't work Google Search

Dynatrace One Agent.

Unfortunately, I'm still in the dark about exactly what HP One Agent's function is. Virtually everything I've learned about it has come from forums such as this one, and what I was able to find using Google.

I did notice that there was a reference in the windows reliability graph this morning alerting me that HP One Agent had been successfully installed. This must have been an update to the application itself, because  I  never uninstalled the program.

I also noted that, unlike the earlier installation, I did not see a reference to the software's reconfiguration.  (Perhaps this issue has been fixed?)

I'll continue to check for additional information concerning what, exactly, HP One Agent's function is, and if I find out anything about it I'll post it here.

Dynatrace seems be the right track to follow.

This agent cannot be uninstalled, it sends unknown informations to unkown persons, no one answers about this.

What do you call THIS ?

That link to the Dynatrace OneAgent uninstall just seems to be straightforward uninstallation instructions for the application -- run the uninstall and then delete some leftovers. Do you see something else?

It sucks that HP won't say what this software actually does, but I don't think that means it's harmful or useless. Though of course it may be.

Hello Ortho_Fan,

(Seen on HP Specter x360 laptop Intel Core I7 / Windows 10 22H2 - Build 19045.3930)

Yesterday I had an automatic update of "HP One Agent" via "Windows Update"
(Noted in Windows Update "Show driver update history": HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent 1.64.3626.0 installed on 02/08/2024")

Following this update, the scheduled task "HPOneAgentRepairTask" was automatically reactivated
and the cached location of the file to execute (HPOneAgent.exe) has been changed (with a different internal identifier) from
"C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{a627b9e0-7cf0-4264-a532-0a44e949e6f5}"
in
"C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{e08f5975-1059-4836-a2ea-4e67c397a686}"

So for me too, the problem reappeared.

I disabled the "HPOneAgentRepairTask" scheduled task again and no more problems.

This remains disabled as long as there is no new update of "HP One Agent" via "Windows Update".

I don't know how often the updates will be... but it becomes annoying because if we don't do anything,
generating system restore points and systematically reinstalling "HP One Agent" at each logon reduce disk space.
(And for some computers with mechanical hard drives a reduction in reliability and a waste of time)

To date, I haven't found any other best way than disabling the "HPOneAgentRepairTask" scheduled task to resolve this issue . Sorry !.

I hope that HP will get involved and find a lasting solution with its supposed supplier "Dynatrace"

(see post of Gator2013 02-08-2024 11:40 AM) to this scourge !
