I have the common HP Support Assistant App will not open problem. All solutions begin with deleting the current app and reinstalling a new version. But what is this named? When I look in Control Panel/Programs, I see a number of HP entries, but none titled HP Support Assistant. I do see an "HP Update." Is that it?

Hi @Curmudgeon10,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Support Assistant app is usually listed as "HP Support Assistant" in the Control Panel under Programs and Features. It should not be confused with "HP Update," which is a different utility.
Here’s how you can confirm and uninstall HP Support Assistant.
Open Control Panel:
- Type "Control Panel" in the Windows search bar and select it from the results.
Navigate to Programs and Features:
- Click on "Programs" and then "Programs and Features."
Look for HP Support Assistant:
- Scroll through the list of installed programs to find "HP Support Assistant." It should be listed explicitly as such.
Uninstall HP Support Assistant:
- If you find it, select it and click "Uninstall."
If you do not see "HP Support Assistant" listed, it might have been uninstalled previously or the installation might be corrupted.
Reinstalling HP Support Assistant
Download the latest version:
- Visit the HP Support Assistant download page.
Install the application:
- Download and run the installer, following the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
After reinstalling, try opening the HP Support Assistant to see if the issue is resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

The HP Forums have a number of threads on this issue over at least the last two or three years.: the App will not finish loading (perpetual spinning arrow circle). One cannot find the Aoo listed under Control Panel/Programs. If you try and install the latest version, you get a message that "a newer version has already been installed" and the install process terminates.
Troubleshooting always begins with the standard stuff: Do you have the latest version of everything? Yes. Have you tried rebooting? Of course.
One thread claimed the problem was only solved by getting on the phone with an HP tech support engineer who used a remote control app to find the HP Support Assistant "hiding" on C:\ drive. The tech was able to delete it, and the user was then able to install the latest version.
Before I knew that this was going to be such a difficult problem to solve, I deleted the shortcuts to the app, so I can't see what path was used. I really do like the HP Support Assistant App, but currently have no way to use it.
