Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Acquired this PC used with bad hard drive.  Want to install Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.  Machine has a Phenom II, 4-core processor.  When I try to install from either DVD or USB, I get an error message about no drivers installed to continue setup.  HP's website cannot identify the machine from its serial number, so I cannot get drivers from HP.  How do I get the needed drivers to install Windows 8.1?

I gave up, and will give up on all HP products.  I had the occasion to install a color LaserJet printer over the weekend.  I downloaded the software, but, every time that I tried to install, it hung up on when I was instructed to plug the USB cord into the computer.  Nothing happened, even after waiting well over 30 minutes.  If these examples are how HP supports its products, I can well live with Brother, Dell, Epson, Lexmark, and others when I need computers and peripherals.  My HP notebook already is in the recycle pile.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
