When using the number pad, all number type as numbers except the zero.  When the zero is pressed it seems to change the focus of the window in which the mouse is pointed to.  I have tried several keyboards and every one works in the same manner, so I don't think it is the keyboard.  I have turned off the sticky keys and the filter keys in the Accessibility settings and have insured the latest keyboard drivers are installed.

This zero key anomaly has been happening since the very beginning.  HP support doesn't know why this is happening.

Hi @ReA99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the zero key behave this way across all applications (for example, Notepad, Word, browsers), or only in certain programs?
  • Have you noticed if the Num Lock light is on when this happens?

Troubleshooting steps to try:

  1. Check Num Lock and Keyboard Layout
    • Ensure Num Lock is enabled.
    • Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Keyboard layout and confirm you’re using the correct layout (e.g., US QWERTY).
  2. Test in Safe Mode
    • Boot into Safe Mode and test the zero key.
    • If it works normally there, a background program or driver may be interfering.
  3. Check Accessibility Settings Again
    • In Ease of Access → Keyboard, confirm that “Use the numeric keypad to move the mouse around the screen” (Mouse Keys) is turned off. This setting can cause the numpad zero to act as a “click” instead of typing a zero.
  4. Create a Test Local Account
  • Add a new local user account and test the keyboard there. If the issue doesn’t appear, it may be tied to your current user profile settings.

I hope this helps.
