Pavilion d4790y
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Added 3 3TB drives to my Pavilion d4790y wanting to create a RAID 5 array. The BiOS shows the drives as 750GB. Can't find a BIOS upgrade for the ASUS P5BW-LA motherboard.

Hi:

Even if you could find a BIOS update, it wouldn't matter.

The maximum possible HDD size that can be recognized with the chipset your PC has is 2 GB.

You need a UEFI BIOS and a PC with at least an Intel 2nd gen core processor and series 6 chipset for drives in excess of 2 TB for windows to see and use the full capacity.

You also have to format the drives in GPT, not MBR.

Please review this HP whitepaper regarding this matter.

It was written for HP business desktop PC's, but the theory applies to all PC's.
