I would like to connect my work laptop to my all-in-one HP desktop via a docking station, but don't have a clue how to go about this. With what cables - and where - do I connect the two to each other?

Thanks for the clarification -- as it seems that what you want to do is use the monitor on your all-in-one as a second monitor for your laptop.
Unfortunately, this can not be done, as your all-in-one video jack is output only, not input.
Sorry.

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
That's not how a docking station works. It does not connect two PCs together; instead, it connects a single PC to peripherals (i.e., monitor, keyboard, mouse, external drive, printer, ETC.).
The only way to connect two PCs together is using a CROSSOVER networking cable. This will plug into the networking ports on each PC.
Here is some information on how to do that: https://www.techperiod.com/connect-windows-computers-in-lan/
Good Luck

Hi - and thank you. I phrased my question incorrectly - I do want to connect my laptop to my monitor - but as my monitor is part of an all-in-one I don't know if this is possible, and if it is, how to go about it.

Hello:
I have a related issue. I am attempting to use my HP Envy All-in-one: 34-a05134-a051 as the display for my laptop, which is connected to an HP Ultraslim Docking Station.
My All-in-one has the necessary HDMI input, but it will not display the image from my laptop's Docking station. When I remove the docking station from the equation and connect directly to the laptop, it works just fine.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
