1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

The simple answer is that the HP scanjet 4400c is NOT supported with Windows 7 operating system drivers.

Read the bottom of the page in the above link. It offers links to 3rd party drivers that may give some functionality.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Hp driver works with this scanner, but we  have to do the following things:

!) Dowload the file sj659.exe from HP Site

2) DISABLE  'Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service; the driver is compatible, but Microsoft service not at all!

3) Open Device Manager , then begin installing it, until HP Scanjet 4400C driver is configured without any conflict

4) Open Task Manager (ctrl alt canc) and stop software installation.

5) Reboot PC

'

6) Install sj659.exe in' xp sp3 compatibility mode' , and as administrator

7) Right click on the icon 'Precision Scan' and choose properties; then 'Compatibility' , check 'compatibility with windows xp sp3' , then check run as administrator.

At this point your scanner works well, even if the buttons on the device  are... dead, however  it's working by software!

In alternative we may use Vuescan, instead od HP Precision Scan.

By means of these tricks, I've installed my 4400c , even under Windows 10. In this case I remember that we find Acquisition image service under Components Services , while in Windows 7 the same service is under 'Services'

I'm a 'Recycler' and I don't like to throw away anything is working!

Regards

Donald
